Otwell Mawby provided environmental consulting services to the joint City of Traverse City – Charter Township of Garfield Recreational Authority for the acquisition and operation of three important recreational properties: Hickory Meadows, the Smith Barney building, and the Barns property.
The properties have varying levels of environmental impact due to extensive and varied historical uses. Otwell Mawby provided Phase I and Phase II ESAs, preparation of Baseline Environmental Assessments (BEA) and Due Care analyses to ensure safe future use of the properties, including extensive negotiation with the MDEQ to establish a site-specific standard for the safe use of the Hickory Meadows property.
Otwell Mawby identified the presence of lead, asbestos, and avian feces that represented a threat to human health. We designed and supervised the cleanup to provide for the safe use of the buildings.
Otwell Mawby has also been selected through a competitive proposal process to lead a public input process to create a community vision for the future of the Barn and surrounding property
